Culture Ministry gets a logo
(10-01-2005)
HA NOI — The Ministry of Culture and Information has introduced its first-ever logo, which will be used officially to mark all ministry activities and releases of information both at home and abroad.
The design of the logo is in the shape of a circle with the name of the ministry around the outside of the circle in both Vietnamese and English. Inside the circle is the image of the Vietnamese gold star (taken from the national flag) and below it are three waves issuing from the star and symbolising the transmission of information.

In the center of the logo is the image of Khue Van Cac (the Reading Pavilion in the Temple of Literature) representing the nation’s culture. Taken from the Vietnamese traditional Dong Son bronze drum, the Lac bird at the bottom of the logo symbolises the foundations and origin of Vietnamese culture.
From the bottom up, then, the logo illustrates the heritage and ongoing development of Vietnamese culture from the past to the present, and the combination between culture and information, said deputy culture minister Le Tien Tho.
The logo is monochromatic, Tho said, and users can choose any colour, in propriety, suited to their purpose. However, the two suggested colours will be dark red or deep blue.
The logo was designed by the Ha Noi artist Tran Viet Son who received an prize of VND15 million (US$950). The award was part of a competition the ministry launched in September last year.
